T-Rex Bite Marks on Hadrosaur Vertebrae, Hell Creek Formation
This fossil was collected by our team on private leased land in South Dakota.
The fossil has absolutely no restoration or crack filling of any kind.
This is evidence of dinosaur behavior where a Tyrannosaurus rex left its mark on its prey. The bite marks, on pictures 3 and 4, indicate the immense force of the predator’s jaws, which could crush bone with ease. These impressions suggest either an active hunt, where the T. rex subdued its prey with powerful bites, or scavenging, where it fed on an already-deceased animal. The positioning and depth of the marks provide valuable insight into feeding strategies, revealing how this apex predator interacted with its environment and shaped the Late Cretaceous ecosystem.
Measurements: 4.5” long x 4.0" wide x 3.0” thick
